York County Author’s Work Featured on HBO’s Wartorn 1861-2010

At 9 p.m. tonight HBO is airing for the first time a new documentary, Wartorn 1861-2010. It is on what we now call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The affliction was labeled melancholy, hysteria or insanity in the Civil War era; called shell shock in World War I and battle fatigue in World War II. No matter what the name, it is devastating.
Pennsylvania Civil War soldier Angelo Crapsey is featured. His story is condensed from local author Dennis Brandt’s book Pathway to Hell: A Tragedy of the American Civil War.
