York Catholic: Check out this talented list of the school’s all-time Greatest Athletes

York Catholic’s senior players won their second straight state championship trophy in 2007. From left Megan Stewart, Danielle Colombo and Amanda Weaver. Megan Stewart finished number 8 on the list of York Daily Record/Sunday News’ greatest York Catholic athletes. (See photo of a member of those championship teams that scored No. 10 on the list.) Also of interest: Sports book focuses on York Catholic Irish girls championship teams and Autumn Lau gained top area girls basketball scoring record.

Win or lose in states this year, York Catholic girls have scored another championship basketball team.
So how many of the great players from these great teams scored on the York Daily Record/Sunday News’ top 10 list of Greatest Athletes at York Catholic? …

York Catholic senior Kelly Rhein as she gets a hug from head coach Kevin Bankos after the Fighting Irish won their third straight state championship Friday at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center in 2008. The Irish finished 34-1 for the season. Kelly Rhein finished No. 10 on York Catholic’s Greatest Athletes list.
The answer is two.
Megan Stewart and Kelly Rhein, Nos. 8 and 10, respectively.
There’s a slight asterisk here though. The Greatest Athletes’ rating evaluated their performance in several sports – not just basketball.
Still, it’s interesting.
As for honorable mention, add on Amanda Weaver.
But next time around, Kady Schrann’s storied career will be there for evaluation.
And the junior is a two-sporter.
When the Greatest Athlete series is updated, several years from now, No. 1 Irish athlete Chris Boyle better watch out.
