\nYork countian Derek Shaw, who is interested in all kinds of neat things, is looking for an exterior photo of the main building at White Oak Park in North York.
\n“It was a big hangout for teens and a venue for many of the local bands and groups of the 1950s and ’60s,” he said. “I believe the main building was on or near the storage facilities that are now at the top of the hill, above the Masonic Lodge.”

\nHere’s a description of the Spring Garden Township dance club from “Never to be Forgotten:”<\/p>\n

The Shady Dell, a hangout for four generations of county youths with indoor and outdoor dance floors, closes its doors because of the advanced age of its owner and an increasingly rowdy clientele. “It was a ’50s hangout,” a newspaper said after its closing, “a place where teen-agers could sip pineapple zombies or cherry phosphate and dance to Bill Haley and Little Richard. It was a ’60s hangout, where kids could talk about the war and listen to the Beatles and the Doors. … For four decades, it stood at the top of Violet Hill, a magnet to York’s young people.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
