Even 100 years ago, that was this church’s 126th annual conference. “There reportedly were either 20,000, 40,000 or 60,000 Brethren here for that conference which was held at the York Fairgrounds. No one seems to know the number of people for sure,” Larry Gibble<\/a>, who sent in this photograph, wrote. The church is celebrating its 225th annual conference this year in Grand Rapids, Mich. Look for coverage next year on the 100th anniversary of this large Protestant denomination’s meeting in York, Pa. Also of interest: York County minister\/historian Elmer Q. Gleim: ‘He continues to write as if his veins flowed with ink’<\/a> and Mother Codorus has long served as leading light in obscure Dunkard Valley<\/a> and People of varying religious groups founded York County – 13\/31 iconic images<\/a> and All God and York County posts from the start<\/a>.<\/strong>

\nYork County cemeteries have been in the news recently.
\nFor his Eagle Scout community project, Jacob Ward documented a Shrewsbury Township cemetery.
\nA York Daily Record\/Sunday News story<\/a> about the project stated: “Jacob elected to compile all the information on the tombstones at the New Hope United Church of Christ Cemetery in Shrewsbury Township. The 16-year-old later presented a CD with the information and a photo of each tombstone to the church. Now the church has complete records of everybody buried there.”
\nAnd Jacob loves history, something good to hear from a young person… .<\/p>\n


\n“I like genealogy and history, and this (project) will help people who want to know about their ancestors. Church members will know if they have relatives buried there and some information about them,” Ward said.
\nIn a separate story<\/a>, a group cleaned up the Folkenroth cemetery in North Codorus Township.
\n“In the 1930s, a cemetery inventory was taken, and 10 people were registered as buried here,” Blake Stough, a project organizer, said. “But we uncovered 14 headstones.”
