{"id":232,"date":"2006-10-02T12:45:26","date_gmt":"2006-10-02T12:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"\/yorktownsquare\/2006\/10\/02\/east-yorker-david-levin-became\/"},"modified":"2006-10-02T12:45:26","modified_gmt":"2006-10-02T12:45:26","slug":"east-yorker-david-levin-became","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yorkblog.com\/yorktownsquare\/east-yorker-david-levin-became\/","title":{"rendered":"East Yorker David Levin became exemplary elder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of a recent tour of historic East York, guide and East York native Dan Meckley provided a copy of the East Ender.<br \/>\nHe and fellow Hiestand School eighth-grader David Levin teamed up to edit the newsletter-like publication.<br \/>\nAs a sign of the times, The East Ender published individual eighth-grade test scores that showed all 15 class members graduated to the next grade at Phineas Davis school.<br \/>\nLevin signed his list of bequeaths &#8211; &#8220;Charles Lambert\u2019s ability to blow off hot air (through the clarinet) to Walter Grim&#8221; &#8211; \u201cDavid Levin.DU.MB.&#8221; &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nWell, David Levin wasn\u2019t dumb. He scored above all other eighth-graders in the tests reported by his newspaper. He went to Harvard and taught English for years at the University of Virginia. (See his bibliography at <a href=\"http:\/\/xroads.virginia.edu\/~HYPER\/LEVIN\/levbib.html\">http:\/\/xroads.virginia.edu\/~HYPER\/LEVIN\/levbib.html<\/a>.)<br \/>\nHis book, &#8220;Exemplary Elders,&#8221;
