Marquis de Lafayette’s toast in support of George Washington hangs in York, Pa.’s Lafayette Club’s reading room. (For a closer look, see: Marquis de Lafayette captivates folks even today<\/a>.) The club is profiled in the October edition of Spaces, a glossy magazine exploring luxury living in Central Pennsylvania published by the MediaOnePa. (Editor’s note: The club has since closed and its contents auctioned off.<\/em>) Also of interest: York’s Lafayette Club: ‘It’s not your father’s club … It’s historic. But it’s not prehistoric’<\/a> and Gettysburg’s Majestic Theater: ‘This was a golden project’<\/a> and Former Hahn mansion: ‘I thought it would make the most spectacular funeral home’<\/a>.<\/strong>
\nFrom the mailbag: A mixed bag of links to a bit of everything around York County:
\n– Did you know that Route 74<\/a>, that winding road that runs diagonally across York County linking Dillsburg in the northwest with Delta in the southeast, wasn’t marked as such until 1927. That and lots of other road information at: http:\/\/www.pahighways.com<\/a>….<\/p>\n


\n– Paul Boring, York RD 1 tavern owner, found a cannonball while mowing a field on a 44-acre tract he owns near Maytown in the Pinchot Park<\/a> at area in 1948. Really, in Northern York County? Read more at Universal York blog<\/a>.
\n– World War I observances<\/a> in York County are all too rare, but there’s one this weekend at Muddy Creek Forks: http:\/\/www.ydr.com\/history\/ci_13481194<\/a>.
\n– Ron Lieberman presents Pressing on-Early Printing in York County, part of the Skold Lectures, at 2 p.m., Oct. 11, at the York County Heritage Trust Historical Society Museum<\/a>.
