A fun thread under way on The Exchange<\/a>, a York Daily Record\/Sunday News community bulletin board, is exploring topics relating to Springwood Park and Pool<\/a> and Camp Betty Washington<\/a>.
\nThe conversation is exploring the old Springwood pool, which operated along Springwood Road between Chapel Church Road, and Yoe<\/a> and the old Camp Betty Washington Pool. That complex was operated along the road of the same name, about a half mile south of the Mount Rose intersection in Spring Garden Township.
\nThe camp was started and used by York’s St. John the Baptist Episcopal<\/a> congregation from the 1920s to 1940, which generally overlapped with the heyday of the Springwood Park… .<\/p>\n


\nAn Exchange commenter named JimmyBear remembered the Camp Betty Washington Pool from his youth.
\nHe located its former site this week and graciously shared information about it with me.

I took a ride down Camp Betty Washington Road this morning … in search of the old Camp Betty Washington pool. It has been at least 40 years since I saw the remains of the pool at least 55 years since I actually sat on the walls of the old pool and let my feet get wet.
\nI actually came very close in my search. I stopped and talked to several people who lived in the area and they confirmed the exact location.
\nHere are the directions– The exact location is .6 miles south of the intersection of Mt. Rose Avenue and Camp Betty Washington Road. The location is on the west side of the road right beside the creek. There is a mobile home on a hill on the east side of the road. The address of this home directly on the opposite side of the road from the pool is 1351 Camp Betty Washington. When you are driving south on Camp Betty Washington Road as soon as you pass the site of the pools, there is a small clearing where there is cut grass. Cars could pull in there. There is a small old junk yellow school bus in brush on the edge of this clearing… .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
