This image brings people back to another time – a post-World War II moment in which York Pa.’s retail might was at its height. York City’s population crested in 1950 at about 60,000, and those folks shopped in the downtown. As time passed in the 1950s, housing subdivisions followed Caterpillar and other suburban industrial plants. Little by little, retailers in York city moved out to the York Shopping Center and other suburban centers to join chain stores, and so did shoppers. But this moment – with Santa arriving at The Bon-Ton via a ladder truck – is frozen in minds. And in this photo. So here’s the quiz: How did Santa get to the fire truck, to get to the Bon-Ton?
