Want to know more about Scott Butcher’s new book – his 12th? Here’s an Amazon.com description:
Nestled among the rolling hills of South Central Pennsylvania, six counties – Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York – are home to more than three centuries of history and architecture. Beginning with early eighteenth century buildings, almost every style of American architecture is featured in the region’s mid-sized cities, charming towns, and quaint villages. Susquehanna Valley buildings showcase excellent examples of Colonial, Early Republic, Victorian, and twentieth-century architectural movements. Featured are educational narratives of three dozen styles as well as special sections on a variety of building types, including farmers’ markets and train stations, all brought to life by more than 180 full-color photos. Join author and photographer Scott D. Butcher on an enlightening tour featuring the best of American architecture as seen through the eyes of the region’s architects and builders.

Audrey Lerew commented about a post on another significant building in York County, the old York County Prison on Chestnut Street.
“York has lost far too many historical sites. It would be a tremendous loss if someone cannot restore this building.”
My response:
“Audrey, Right you are. One thing for sure, you can’t demolish that fortress. At least not easily.”
Happy birthday, Joan: Yorkblogger Joan Concilio turned 30 years old late last month. As you might expect, part of her celebration included blogging. And she tied in her age with her post: 30 things I love about living in York County.
Blog post of the day: June Lloyd writes about a noteworthy York County building of old, the original York County Court House. This Centre Square building is not to be confused with its replica, located on West Market Street next to the Codorus.
Forum of the day: The organized campaign “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” has been around York County for a full year: . Do you tend to shop for more locally grown, fresher food than you have in the past? Background: Local campaigns have been around for years, but this one is a fresh effort: Apple Queen gave Joe Paterno a health to you wish.
