Plaid facade linked to Springetts cleaner’s roots

Ever wonder why the commercial building on East Market Street in Springettsbury Township has a long plaid strip along its façade?
I’ve wondered about that for years and finally posed the question to the right person. Make that people. …

During a recent tour of East York, Dan Meckley, John Uhler, Luther Sowers and Bob Bowers, all natives of the historic neighborhood, lined the colorful strip with a former dry cleaner that occupied the building.
Mary McIntosh cleaners, to be exact. The plaid played on Mary’s Scottish surname.
The cleaner is gone, but her clan’s colors remain for all to see.
