Paul and Dorothy Ettline’s home and store in Springettsbury Township were up for auction last weekend. The Ettline estate was one of several high-profile, York County-area sales advertised recently. Also of interest: American Picker goes antiquing in New Oxford, Pa.

What’s it like when the estate of an antique dealer goes up for auction.

A York Daily Record/Sunday News story tells about the prospect of the estate sale of the Original York Antiques Show, run by Paul and Dorothy Ettline.

And remember the yorktownsquare.com post about Jonathan Jessop’s tall case clock going up for auction at Old Tyme Auction?

As boomers and their parents age, we’ll see more of such sales.

And here’s another memorable recent antique sale.

Well, it was an antique show at the fairgrounds, and the Daily Record/Sunday News came up with an excellent summary headline for 157th Semi-Annual York Antiques Show & Sale at the York Expo Center: “Antique show finds: chalk pig, Mini Katana samurai sword, wooden weather vane.”

Here are some photos from that show:

That’s a 19th-century hollow chalk pig, created from a mold.

Here’s the samurai sword, circa Japanese feudal period, 1185-1868.

The sword’s scabbard is engraved with the date it was seized. The name of the soldier who took it is inscribed as well – U.S. Staff Sgt. Ponce Cazem.
