Brooks Robinson note, autograph treasured: Linked in with neat York County, Pa., history stuff – Oct. 18, 2010

Sculptor Lorann Jacobs’ statues and memorials stand all around the York area. Among the most prominent are her work showing Brooks Robinson appearing, of course, at Sovereign Bank Stadium’s Brooks Robinson Plaza. After the statue was unveiled, she received this note from Brooks, something the Dallastown sculptor treasures. The Patriot-News visited a class from Wellsville Elementary going to school at the Little Red School House, a restored one-room school in that northwestern York County town.
Judy Weber, a 30-year teacher at Wellsville Elementary presided.
“I love this little school,” she said told The Patriot-News. “I didn’t get to go to a one-room school, but my mother taught in them, and my brother and sister both went to one-room schools.” To see the complete story, visit: Little Red School House.… .


Event of the weekend: The Oyster Festival at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum pulled in a full house of lovers of seafood. Pointing to about 100 people in line for seafood at one point in the day, event chairman Michael Carew told the York (Pa.)
