Dover, Pa.’s/Green Bay’s John Kuhn about his jersey: ‘I took mine from the game; I didn’t want them to wash it’

An Associated Press photographer caught Dover, Pa., native and Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn during warmups before the Super Bowl. The jersey with the big No. 30 on it has special meaning to the York County athlete. (See photograph of another start athlete below.) Also of interest: Was Red Lion’s Scott Fitzkee the most-talented three-sport athlete ever in York and Adams? and York County has produced star NFL players and Dover’s/Packers’ John Kuhn: ‘He is able to grasp things very quickly’.

Two sports stories with some legacy in them … .
– The York Daily Record/Sunday News reported this about John Kuhn the other day:

“Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn, a Dover High School graduate, is the only player on the Packers’ active roster who will pick up a second Super Bowl ring — the other one he got as a practice squad player with Pittsburgh — but to him, it’s that jersey that tells the story.” … .

‘I took mine from the game; I didn’t want them to wash it,’ said Kuhn. ‘I wanted to keep it stinky with the holes and the tears in it, with the scuff marks on it. That’s the way I want to frame it.’

And some high school basketball scoring records might fall before the season’s end. Consider these stats through Feb. 10, courtesy of the York Daily Record/Sunday News’ Jim Seip:

Boys hoops

Logan Steckel 2,639
Andrew Nicholas 2,293 (NEXT MILESTONE: needs 96 points to pass Jake Iati as the LEAGUE’s all-time leading scorer)
Austin Tillotson 1,732 (NEXT MILESTONE: needs 268 to reach 2,000)
Four McGlynn 1,685
Kelvin Parker 1,292
Girls hoops
Kady Schrann 2,045 (NEXT MILESTONE: needs 260 points to become GIRLS league AND county scoring leader)
Sierra Moore 1,677 (NEXT MILESTONE: needs 323 to reach 2,000)

Eastern’s Nicholas might catch Iati to take the all-time YAIAA lead, but he won’t catch the still-active Red Lion Christian’s Steckel. So the discussion continues: Who is the rightful owner of the boys’ basketball scoring record?
