This is a rare closeup of York, Pa.’s, white rose being prepared for its drop at the New Year’s finale tonight on Continental Square. The drop will return to the square this year, after a several-year hiatus to Sovereign Bank Stadium. (See another view below.) Murray Friedman, World War II aviator and York County war hero, passed away this week.
He was one of York County’s largest promoters of World War II and was a major force behind the World War II memorial on York’s Continental Square… .
“He was a man this whole county could be proud of,” said Phil Palandro, director of Veterans Affairs for York County. “He will be missed, big time.”
