Former NFLer and York countian Lincoln Kennedy has not forgotten his roots

Former Oakland Raider teammates, Mo Collins, right, and Lincoln Kennedy, joke around between holes during the Celebrity Golf Classic in June. Background posts: Names of stars from York County with pro sports links just keep increasing and York County has produced star NFL players and Lineup full of sports stars with York County links.

Lincoln Kennedy was born and raised in York.
He starred at the University of Washington, attracted the Atlanta Falcon’s first-round pick in 1993 and later played on three division champions with the Oakland Raiders.
Before retiring in 2003, he was viewed as a leader on and off the field.
And he’s still leading.
He’s a good example of a celebrity who has not forgotten his hometown, coming back frequently to lend his name to charity efforts… .

Most recently, he played in a Heritage Hills celebrity golf tournament in June – the Lincoln Kennedy golf classic.
If he chose not to come back, he has a bit of an excuse. He moved away from York to San Diego when he was 12.
Of course, Kennedy is not alone in such charity efforts. Red Lion’s Scott Fitzkee is another celebrity who comes back.
But if more people who launched their successful career from York County – and there have been many – were to come back to promote local efforts, their visits would represent actual and symbolic boosts to their hometowns.
And here’s a Lincoln Kennedy tie-in with history from York Daily Record/Sunday News files:
Kennedy, whose first name is actually Tamerlane, has always been called Lincoln because he was born on Abe Lincoln’s birthday.
