In the WWII fight, in York County and abroad
My Memorial Day story on Bob and Ethel Senft was one of the most satisfying pieces I’ve written in a long time. http://www.ydr.com/newsfull/ci_3877887
Or actually, I wrote it about two years ago as part of “In the thick of the fight,” and excerpted it recently for publication in the York Daily Record/Sunday News.
It attempted to give due credit to a common soldier — Bob Senft — and his wife — Ethel — who he left behind to serve his country… .
An editor’s note running with the story provided an apt summary:
“Often, the jobs they did in civilian life and on military assignment were everyday in nature, but when thousands did routine work well, they collectively created an arsenal of democracy such as the world had never seen.”
The Senft’s contributions to the York community in recent years are known to many. Their efforts during the war may be less known.
