‘Flames Beyond Gettysburg’ available at York County booksellers
Union Army engineer Herman Haupt quickly rebuilt this bridge in Hanover Junction after invading Confederates burned it in late June 1863. This fast work was important to carry wounded from the Battle of Gettysburg to military hospitals. This Library of Congress photo appears in the just-released “Flames Beyond Gettysburg,” which tells about the Confederate raid. Another Mingus book, Gettysburg Glimpses: True Stories from the Battlefield have been shipped and will soon be available.
