East Berlin’s Log House is an unsung landmark in that western Adams County town. It gains the headlines this time of year because of its holiday craft show and was, thus, highlighted this year in these Hanover Evening Sun photos. It’s not surprising that the craft show would be so popular. How often can you buy holiday gifts in a log cabin? Also of interest: What does this East Berlin mystery photo show?

log1
The Log Cabin is not native to East Berlin. It was disassembled from its home since 1832 in Adams County’s Cross Keys and reassembled in East Berlin in 1980-81, according to operator East Berlin Historical Preservation Society’s website.

Neat stuff from all over … .

An iconic York County businesses is closing and getting quite a outpouring of support on YDR’s Facebook page.

Springettsbury’s Gettys Pet Store will close Dec. 31.

According to the YDR:

Francis Gettys, opened the East Market Street store in 1957.

In those days, few places offered animals and supplies for sale. “The business evolved from a passion,” the YDR reported. In recent years, the family-run store has been battling the various big boxes.

The last pet at Gettys.

A rite of passage: Lance Wolf, projectionist at the Capitol Theater and other area moviehouses, is retiring.

This is interesting: Check out this work – particularly this photo – by Yorkblogger Stephen H. Smith on the impact of Interstate 83 on Melvin’s and other businesses in its path when it opened in 1957.
