Hanover, Pa.’s, Forest Park, a place built to provide a destination for trolley passengers, was not small. but it came down in a big way to make room for development, the South Hanover Plaza. It’s just a piece of Hanover’s long past, 250 years of it, that is being celebrated in the next week and months. The Hanover Evening Sun has put up a website recognizing Hanover’s 250th as well as Gettysburg 150. The Evening Sun’s project is aggregating a lot of Hanover borough history, all in one place. Hanover is a neat place soak it in in 2013. Also of interest:  Hanover, York County’s oldest borough and All posts about Hanover from the start.

More neat stuff from all over … .

Many people are used to YDR columnist Mike Argento’s weird take on local and national stories.

Perhaps that work overshadows all the columns and stories he writes on local folks, including many pieces of folks who otherwise might have been lost to history.

Here’s his piece about on such man, Tony Danna of West York, a Flying Tiger airman who saw service in World War II in the China-Burma-India theater of war.

Another McClure?: There’s another McClure doing journalism and history, only a bit farther north in Harrisburg. Joe McClure, my oldest son, wrote this piece about Gettysburg 150 for the Patriot-News and Pennlive.com: Civil War and civil rights came to a head at Gettysburg centennial.

Yet another anniversary: In this Hanover 250/150 year, there’s another birthday: Lincoln Highway 100. Enthusiasts will roll into York County, where the Lincoln Highway is known as Route 462 and Route 30, this week. Check out: Lincoln Highway.
