Glen Rock, Pa., residents experienced a retro weekend recently, with the return of the music of one of its most famous citizens and the return of a train to its well-worn tracks. Pennsylvanian Dr. Lee Zelley, grandson of famed ‘Parade Music Prince’ Roland F. Seitz conducts the Brodbecks Band in Seitz’s best known work ‘Grandioso.’

Glen Rock’s Roland F. Seitz, 1867-1946, was internationally known but he made his music in his Pennsylvania hometown. Now, the Glen Rock Historic Preservation Society plans a band concert to honor Glen Rock’s own ‘Parade Music Prince. ‘

Antiques expert Joe Kindig, spotlighted in ‘Antiques and the Arts Weekly’ will be featured in a York County, Pa., Heritage Trust event, ‘A Conversation with … Joe Kindig’ on Saturday June 1, 2013. ‘Without his inquisitive nature,’ a Trust newsletter states, ‘the Golden Plough Tavern might not have been restored to its Colonial roots.’

The Amish and Mennonites fascinate folks but how often do you have an opportunity to increase your understanding of these Pennsylvania Dutch denominations? Old Order Amish and Mennonite historians who will discuss the topic of “Amish and Mennonite: History of Growing Faith Communities” on Monday, June 10, 7:00 PM at Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, in Ephrata, Lancaster County.

This is the view from atop Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown, Pa., several years ago when workers shored up about 15 feet of the 80-foot steeple on this 100-year-old church.Original deteriorating brownstones gave way to stones made from precast concrete. Far below and inside the building a Sunday school orchestra plays every week.
