Cameron Mitchell, York County native: ‘Do you know who this is?’
Linked in/Neat stuff: Artspace back in York/History mystery photo
Bryan Sellers, who has close family members who knew York County, Pa., native movie star Cameron Mitchell (seen here) will present on Mitchell’s life and times at the Jan.28 meeting of the Glen Rock Historic Preservation Society. A York Daily Record story previews that presentation and puts forth an interesting nugget: Sellers was inspired to get out word on the former Cameron Mitzell of Shrewsbury when he realized this famous actor’s York County roots were unknown around York County. When he was at the New Freedom Community Center one day, Sellers observed a plaque bearing the names of Mitchell and other high school students. “I asked some of the individuals waiting with me ‘Do you know who this is,'” he said. “They didn’t know and they all grew up in York County.” If anyone can get a photo of that plaque, send it to me and I’ll post it on York Town Square. Also of interest: Remember Cameron Mitchell? He was from here.
