Love these photo galleries showing the ‘best of’ for the year, this one from the Hanover Evening Sun’s gallery. This one, of course, points back to the padlocking of the Gettysburg National Military Park, specifically Soldiers’ National Cemetery. Also of interest: 6 best stories and photos from 2013.

22. Ethan Bishop, of Gettysburg, a former National Park Service employee who worked inside the Cyclorama building for six years in the 1970s, watched as demolition crews dismantle the building in March 2013.
Who can forget the demolition of the Cyclorama building in Gettysburg? This Evening Sun photo gallery shows the demolition in midstream. Also of interest: Old Gettysburg Cyclorama building: Visit this round landmark while it still stands.

Neat stuff from all over …

Remember that smokestack from Foust Distillery that came down in 2012? (Well, mostly down. A stub remains standing.) You can have a piece of that stack for $20.

The Glen Rock Historic and Preservation Society is selling the bricks from the stack that marked the spot of what is sometimes called Billy Foust’s Distillery for decades.

The society’s website does not say if any of the bricks are the white ones that spelled out the Foust name on the side of the 125-foot stack. But there’s plenty of other information about the stack and how to get the bricks under “About” on the GRHPS site.

Image if the annual Polar Bear Plunge in the Susquehanna River had been scheduled for yesterday, that single-digit-above-zero day. Not that it was a warm bath when these folks stepped into the Susquehanna.

I know, Christmas is over: But you won’t be able to resist this Universal York post, as June Lloyd looks at the star that hovered above in York’s Continental Square over the decades.
