Anyone know why this Glen Rock church lacks a steeple? Linked in with neat York County history stuff – Aug. 25, 2011
Some people view Glen Rock as a York County, Pa., town with English roots. The top hats and capes of the Glen Rock Carolers might suggest that. Actually, Germans founded the borough, as the town’s three major churches – all with German origin – attest. Immanuel United Methodist Church, 1 New St., is of German Methodist stock. This second building on that New Street site, promotes itself as ‘the church with no steeple that cares about people.’ The earlier building had a steeple. Does anyone know why this attractive edifice, built in the 1920s, does not? In this respect, the church is like York’s St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in emphasizing its lack of a spire.
Neat stuff from all over…
Hello there, I am a descendant of the Emig line Johannes Emig and Dorothy Rotter from Germany. I am interested in the history of my family in your area and surrounding counties/twp. I want to contact Ray Emig for any photos or otherwise that he may have. Is the Emig Mansion part of my line and are the farms you have photos of part of my line and do you have any photos of my Civil and American Revolution descendants.
Peggy should contact the York County Heritage Trust archives and also query through www.emigsville.org, Emigsville’s community site. Around York County, there’d be an abundance of information on the Emigs, a longtime county family.
Or readers are welcome to contact Peggy.

Mother nature calls: This week, the area has experienced an earthquake and the prospect of the aftermath of a tropical storm. We’ve seen both before as the following respective posts indicate: In 1889, ‘Bona Fide Earthquake’ rattled York County and Tropical Storm Agnes dumped 15 inches of rain on York County.
