The art of Dallatown-based sculptor Lorann Jacobs is all around the city for your enjoyment. This is one piece, a memorial in the courtyard of the Agricultural and Industrial Museum. It’s available to enjoy during the West Princess Street museum’s hours. Of course, you can spend a half-day in the museum, too. And not see everything. More: Workers of York.

3. J. Horace Rudy’s work
This display might not be permanent but for now you can see an example of noted York artist J. Horace Rudy’s stained glass work up close. It’s in the window at 15 E. Philadelphia St. The public is rediscovering his century-old work, as witnessed by an upcoming tour of places where his stained glass can still be seen and enjoyed.

4. Garden at Forsight Vision Center
York County, Pa., is filled with public gardens – quiet getaways that are there to be enjoyed. This one is on the campus of Forsight Vision Center on Spahn Avenue in York. It’s a small garden – a place to rest from your tour of unsung places! More: ‘The bees have been enjoying this garden, too.’

5. The view from Chickies Rock
We’ve now left the city. In fact, we’ve left York County. But we can see York County in a way that thousands of people see it every day – from Chickies Rock. This high point is north of Columbia on the Lancaster County side of the Susquehanna and offers a bird’s-eye view of the river and York County on its west bank. It’s a little hike to get to the overlook, but it’s worth the walk. Placards in the parking area tell you a little about this place’s history.

6. Coffee at the Cocoa Beanery
Every unsung tour needs to feature an eatery/coffeehouse. You can just keep heading up the east bank of the Susquehanna River from Chickies Rock and enjoy the Cocoa Beanery, not far from the Hershey Medical Center. It’s an interesting case of adaptive reuse – the coffeehouse is part of the former Edgewood Farm House. An exhibit inside tells about the place.
