Schedule of upcoming YorksPast Talks
Three public talks by Stephen H. Smith are scheduled over the next five weeks. This year, the majority of my talks have been to private groups following luncheons, so this is your chance for the general public to catch some of my newer talks. A synopsis and scheduling of all my talks is always available at this link.
On Tuesday September 11, 2018 at 7:00 PM, ABC’s of discovering your Family History will be presented at the Codorus Valley Historical Society. Meeting is held in the Jefferson Borough Building at 48 Baltimore Street in Jefferson. This is my talk [9], which has seen continual updates per feedback from the 14 groups to whom it has been presented over the past four years. In the latest update, I followed a suggestion to rename the talk “ABC’s of discovering your Family History.” The presentation provides examples, which illustrate the basics of discovering your family history.
On Tuesday October 2, 2018 at 6:30 PM, Clockmaker began York’s Railroad Heritage will be presented at the Lower Windsor Area Historical Society. Meeting is held in the Lower Level of the Lower Windsor Township Community Building at 2425 Craley Road (1-mile west of Craley on Route 624). This is my talk [16] and it covers York’s railroad manufacturing heritage of the 1800s; with an emphasis on Phineas Davis, who was a trained clockmaker and steam engine innovator in addition to designing “The York” locomotive.
On Saturday October 13, 2018 at 10:30 AM, Karl Ort and the Great War will be presented as a Second Saturday program at the York County History Center, 250 East Market Street in York. This is my talk [21], in which the story of World War I trained pilot Karl Ort will bookend stories of York County’s World War I aviators who gave their lives in the fight to save democracy.
