Publishing houses producing York County newspapers in 1899 were defined by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as factories. York County had three newspapers based in York City that year, however there were also nine newspapers published around the county.

I’ll be presenting my talk “Countdown of the Top 50 York County Factories in 1899” at the monthly meeting of the Manchester Township Historical Society on Monday May 20, 2019 at 7:00 PM. This meeting is open to all and held in the Manchester Township Municipal Building, 3200 Farmtrail Road, York, PA 17406.

This newspaper slide is used to make a point within that overview presentation, where you will learn interesting facts about the Top 50 turn of the 20th Century Factories in a countdown to the top York County employer in 1899. The factories run the gambit from wagon makers, to bakers, to heavy machinery manufacturers, to cigar makers, to sewing factories, to paper makers, to whip manufacturers, to candy makers, and through a whole host of other types of manufacturers. All of the 1899 factories within Manchester Township will be highlighted during this presentation.
