Virtually every sizeable ship in the Navy during WWII was outfitted with 40-MM Naval Anti-aircraft Bofors Guns.  The gun fired a two-pound projectile from each barrel at the rate of 120 or better per minute.  The projectile itself was of the tracer type, high explosive, with a super-sensitive nose fuse;
