YDR town meeting April 11 at York Expo Center

In this age of social media, many of us have loads of “friends” we’ve never seen face-to-face, people we communicate with on a regular basis, but have never really met.

That term itself can be strange. We meet people all the time, on Facebook, on Twitter, on Instagram, but we really don’t meet them. We don’t shake their hands or look them in the eye.

It can be odd talking about the intimate details of “friends'” lives because you saw a photo on Facebook, or a tweet that mentioned what they had had for breakfast. On the other hand, the world of social media has made the world more connected and has provided us with more information.

But tonight, you will have a chance to interact with us in the old-fashioned, face-to-face way at a town hall meeting at the York Expo Center. The meeting is a regular event that the York Daily Record/Sunday News/ydr.com holds in conjunction with WGAL-TV to meet the public.

Representatives of the television station, including veteran anchor Ron Martin, a York native, and the newspaper, including publisher Sara Glines, editor Jim McClure, editorial page editor Scott Fisher and columnist Mike Argento, will be on hand to answer questions, listen to your concerns and simply chat with the people we serve.

We do listen. These meetings, over the years, have provided us with tips on stories that you want to see covered. They have guided our editorial positions by opening our eyes to other viewpoints. They have provided us with the opportunity to visit with old friends and meet new ones.

So come on out. We plan to have our mobile newsroom – the NewsVroom – there. WGAL videotapes the proceeding, and there’s a chance you will be on the 11 o’clock news for something that’s not embarrassing to your family.

And we will listen and report your concerns to our readers – live, at ydr.com.

(If you would like to join in the conversation via Twitter, use the hashtag #ydrtownmeet.) P.S.: There will be snacks.

You don’t get snacks on Facebook.
