YDR “I voted” contest winner is one cool cat

Congratulations to Natalie Marshall of Spring Garden Township for winning YDR’s “I voted” sticker selfie contest.
Marshall tweeted this photo of her cat Kissy with the sticker Marshall got after voting in Tuesday’s primary. Everyone who posted an “I voted” photo on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #YorkVote was entered in a drawing for a YDR prize pack, which included a coveted comic strip umbrella.
The idea was to get York countians to use the power of social media to inspire others to vote. Tuesday’s turnout was a mere 17 percent, so obviously we have a lot of room for growth. We’ll try again in the general election.
Marshall is an international studies senior at Arcadia University. She recently returned from Paris, and she has studied in 17 countries over the last three years.
“Not everyone has the privilege of democratic elections,” she said of her experience in other countries, explaining why she votes. “And, even if they do, they’re not always fair elections.”
Here’s hoping she serves as a role model for other young people to participate in America’s democratic process.
