{"id":5103,"date":"2012-07-27T16:56:37","date_gmt":"2012-07-27T20:56:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yorkblog.com\/ydrinsider\/?p=5103"},"modified":"2012-07-27T16:56:37","modified_gmt":"2012-07-27T20:56:37","slug":"gatheringpoint-is-expanding-how-we-share-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yorkblog.com\/ydrinsider\/gatheringpoint-is-expanding-how-we-share-news\/","title":{"rendered":"GatheringPoint is expanding how we share news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been doing some testing here at YDR on some location-based social media maps.<br \/>\nWe started working with <a href=\"http:\/\/resources.gatheringpoint.com\/map-tool\/\">GatheringPoint mapping<\/a> in mid July with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inyork.com\/dallastown\/ci_21086071\/explore-dallastown\">this page<\/a> for our Dallastown readers.<br \/>\nIt shows all the social media communication going on in that area.<br \/>\nOn the Friday morning after the deadly theater shooting in Colorado, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brittanylion\">Brittany Wilson<\/a>, put together a map for all of our properties to show the communication coming out of Aurora.<br \/>\nWe continued with more maps two days later at Penn State.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nWe created maps around Beaver Stadium when Penn State University took down the statue of Joe Paterno. We also created one on Monday when the sanctions came down on Penn State.<br \/>\nReaders responded.<br \/>\nThe page for the maps quickly jumped into our site&#8217;s most-viewed listing.<br \/>\nTwo days later, <a href=\"http:\/\/stevebuttry.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/26\/gatheringpoint-and-geofeedia-help-you-find-social-media-by-location\/\">Steve Buttry<\/a> blogged about our maps.<br \/>\nFrom that post, one of our sister papers liked the idea and created an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicoer.com\/breakingnews\/ci_21167228\/olympic-park-abuzz-awating-start-olympics\">Olympics map<\/a>. Very cool.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll be doing more maps.
