What can we learn from a fortune cookie?
This was in my fortune cookie at lunch today:
Prosperity belongs to those who can learn new things the fastest.
Amen, brother.
May newsrooms everywhere take heed and unshackle themselves from old things and embrace fast-paced change. News — credible, neutral, fair — news has more value than ever. We just need to learn new things, and fast.
Last year, our newsroom learned how to use Twitter and Facebook as tools of constant contact with our readers. We learned that immediacy trumps any concerns that are rooted in the printing press.
And most importantly, I think, we learned that we can succeed with or without print.
Hard to imagine what we’ll need to learn in 2012, but it will be important to learn it quickly.
