Staff Q&As: Meet suburban life reporter Teresa Boeckel

1. What made you want to become a journalist? I always enjoyed reading and writing. I joined the student newspapers in junior and senior high schools and I became hooked. It gave me a chance to meet people and write about their lives and opinions.
2. How do you see journalism changing? I can remember the days when newspapers only published in print. Having a website gives us more opportunities to present the information when we know it. Eventually, the newspaper will be all published in a digital format.
3. What do you like most about your job? The least? I enjoy that I’m always learning something new. How do those bridge inspections work? Are black widow spiders common in this area? How will chronic wasting disease — if it is found in the wild — affect hunting? The thing I like least about my job is it sometimes involves long hours.
4. It’s 9:30 a.m. on a day off. What are you doing? Figuring out how to spend the day with my 4-year-old son. Will we go to a playground, the pool, the library or somewhere else?
6. The drink that’s on your desk right now is: Tea cooler
7. Your favorite journalism-related blog you read or Twitter feed you follow: I enjoy following Smart magazine.
8. What’s your favorite place in York County? I don’t know that I have a favorite. I like the beauty the county has to offer from the rolling hills to York City and small towns to the parks. Some of the places I’ve been recently include the playground at Cousler Park, the York Fair, and the Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company’s annual train display.
9. What’s one piece of newsroom jargon that had to be explained to you? CQ for correct as quoted.
