Steve NavaroliTo help you get to know our newsroom staff a bit better, a series of question-and-answer posts with each journalist will run on Mondays. This morning, meet multiplatform sports journalist Steve Navaroli. You’re likely familiar with the tremendous support he received in the past months from Navaroli Nation.

Name: Steve Navaroli
Position at the YDR: Multi-platform sports journalist
Years with the YDR: Eight full time, 13 part time (21 total)

Whatever you’d like to tell us about yourself: Husband, father of two darling children.

1. What made you want to become a journalist? I always loved sports and enjoyed writing about sports. Oscar Madison from the TV show “The Odd Couple” was my role model.

2. How do you see journalism changing? As reporters we are using social media, doing video, live chats, podcasts and other ways to reach our audience and get news to the public quickly and accurately.

3. What do you like most about your job? I love everything I do, but mostly the response I get when a story I wrote touches people. The least? Working evenings away from my wife and kids, but that is when sports happens.

4. It’s 9:30 a.m. on a day off. What are you doing? Probably resting, thinking I should be doing something more productive than I am.

5. What’s been your favorite project or story recently? Documenting my cancer fight has been a project in itself. Why? The community has really gotten behind me in my fight, especially the York sports community. I never realized how many people were on my side. It made me feel respected in my field and liked personally — two things that are hard to beat.

6. The drink that’s on your desk right now is: Dr. Pepper.

7. Your favorite journalism-related blog you read or Twitter feed you follow: @GameTimePA, of course.

8. What’s your favorite movie? (Tie) “The Ten Commandments” and “Blazing Saddles” (strange combo I realize) Book? “Patriot Games” by Tom Clancy

9. What’s your favorite place in York County? My backyard on a warm summer day.

10. What’s one piece of newsroom jargon that had to be explained to you? While nothing comes to mind off the top of my head, it is likely because too many things have had to be explained to me.
