NewsVroom looks for new ways to help York County

Lauren Schaffer was among the many people who won prize packages at the NewsVroom during high school football games this fall.

I just sent out the following note to our staff and it occurred to me that everything in it also applies to the general public. I want you to know that we had a great September and October, and that we are eager to hear from you about where you think NewsVroom should go.
Hi folks,

September and October were very busy months for NewsVroom. I think we need to get a new set of tires put on that thing.

We have a few events planned in November, but we need to get some more on the schedule. Please think about how you can use the ‘Vroom to promote a better understanding of your work, how you can teach the public how to take advantage of your services.

Not everything needs to involve the tents and an outside setting. It’s going to get cold out there so many events need to be inside. There is trememdous flexibility in how we can exploit this vehicle and the equipment inside. Let me know if you’d like to bounce ideas off me. I’d be happy to join your department for some brainstorming.

Cub Scouts from Pack 94 in Shiloh visited NewsVroom at Camp Tuckahoe’s Halloween Days in October.

We want to have at least one event per week, preferably in addition to a weekly sports event. Here’s what we have planned at this time

Food Bank drive — November and December

Scott Fisher (sfisher@ydr.com) is heading up this effort and he needs your help. The goal will be to fill the van with as many non-perishable goods as possible. We will challenge schools to be the top giver at the high school basketball games the Vroom attends. And we’ll look for other ways to drive interest. We chose the Food Bank because they are the sole recipient of everything we raise for the Christmas Emergency Fund. Scott needs a team to help him with this worthy cause. Please contact him right away if you can help in any way, big or small.

Dover Football — Nov. 2

The GameTimePa crew finishes out the regular season at this Friday’s game.

Ed Kowalczyk — Nov. 9

The FlipSide team plans to be at the Pullo Center for this concert that features the former lead man for Live.

Paradise Lutheran Church — Nov. 13

Joan Concilio will meet with church members to discuss our approach to hyperlocal news

Impact Summit — Nov. 15

The Vroom will be on hand for this educational meeting with potential advertisers

Post-season football — Nov. 16

West York is likely to be hosting this game

Post-season football — Nov. 23

If we have a local team in the playoffs, we might go to Hershey Park Arena

Rocky Ridge Christmas Magic — December

Details are not yet nailed down, but the FlipSide crew plans to be there one or more nights

High school basketball kickoff — Dec. 7

GameTimePa barely has time to catch its breath from football season

REMEMBER, WE NEED MORE IDEAS.

A paper cutout of the NewsVroom was a big hit at the York Fair in September. Fans put their faces on the van, and shared their photos on Facebook.
