More on York Author’s Artistic Side
Party for four to six year olds
When researching my recent York Sunday News article on Katharine Haviland-Taylor, I found a copy of Happy Birthday to You: Complete Party Programs for Every Age written by Horace J. Gardner in 1939. Instead of writing most of the text this time, Haviland-Taylor used her artistic talent to create cut paper silhouettes to illustrate each suggested party and created a little verse for the caption.
Sweet 16
I posted some of the illustrations previously, but they are so charming that I am sharing a few more. The silhouettes, combined with the verses, give us little glimpses of life 70 years ago.
