So when we started talking about <a href=\"\/onlyyork\/2010\/12\/more-about-feeling-strubbly\/\">some of the German origins behind the word &#8220;strubbly,&#8221;<\/a> I knew I could count on him to share more info!<\/p>\n<p>He says, &#8220;Well you know I gotta add more to this. Just read the post and the only German word I came up with is struppig (adj.) meaning unkempt, bristly (beard) or shaggy (dog). Strubbelig is a regional vernacular or slang in the south of Germany and into parts of western Austria. So I can see the spelling and pronunciation relating to PA Dutch in that fashion.
