Recap from the 2011 Keystone Games
Well, good news from today’s Keystone State Games, held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg!
I won a gold medal in forms! (Forms are patterns of movements on which you’re judged on the precision of your technique and the overall skill with which you perform.)
Here I was with my game face on:
I also competed in sparring, and while I didn’t place, I felt good about the reason why. I was the only woman in my division for sparring, and the options were to receive a gold medal but not even get my padding on to fight, OR, to compete in the men’s division for 20- to 34-year-old intermediate students, which had four competitors, all super-tough guys.
I think the thing that impressed me most were all the people who came out on a July Saturday for today’s games, both in our group (open karate) as well as the fencing, wrestling and volleyball going on in our building as well as the other sports this week. Pennsylvania’s pretty lucky to have so many athletes. Now, if only more of them were 20- to 34-year-old women…
