Names of York: George M. Dallas

More in the ongoing series on the Names of York.

Place: Dallastown

Who was it named after? George Mifflin Dallas, vice president to James K. Polk.

Fun fact: The area was named in 1844, the year Polk was elected and Dallas became vice president. However, there’s no record that Dallas ever visited the borough or had any family connections to it.
