More Yorkisms than you can shake a stick at

This Yorkism comes from my good friend and coworker Cathy, who loves a good local expression nearly as much as I do.

We were talking about stink bugs, I think. We decided there were “more of them than you can shake a stick at.” (I’ve used that same expression in previous blog post titles, too!)
“Is that a Yorkism?” we wondered.

So Cathy went and found out where, exactly, the expression “to shake a stick at” comes from.

Surprise, surprise. It was first recorded in Lancaster County, just over the river. Read more about it here.

Pretty cool, huh?
