More on Rutter’s as a restaurant
New commenter Chrissie Hilliard, along with regular reader and commenter Mark, it turns out, BOTH worked at Rutter’s-the-restaurant, which you’ll remember used to be one of my family’s favorite spots to eat.
Chrissie wrote: “I worked as a hostess at the Rutter’s Restaurant by the Galleria in the summers of 1990 and 1991, I think. The girls had to wear this milkmaid uniform, which looked like a dress straight out of Little House on the Prairie. The most conservative restaurant attire I have ever seen! It was a cozy place and the ice cream sundaes served with a few pretzel sticks were the best. I was sorry to see all of the Rutter’s restaurants close.”
Mark had been there a few years earlier, as a busboy and then cook from 1986 to 1988 at the location on Lightner Road.
What’s interesting is, until now, I didn’t realize that those matched the years my family was eating there. Maybe Mark cooked my food at one location and Chrissie seated us at another! 🙂
Even better, I just found a Facebook group called “I grew up in York, PA, in the 70s and 80s,” and one of their many awesome discussions is about the Lightner Road Rutter’s restaurant.
Thank you all for feeding into my love of nostalgia today!
