Kicking off the 2011 York Fair

Joan at the fair, 2011
Here I am! Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, the day before the fair's opening. We were there dropping off some projects my daughter and I entered for judging.

As always, I’m looking forward to the 10 days of the York Fair. We were there yesterday, dropping off some of our contest entries (a mosaic… two scrapbooks… some house plants…), and I admit I’m amazed that everything is open today as scheduled.

Putting the fair together is always an undertaking, to be sure, but in this week’s weather, it was nuts.

I’m headed out this evening to see the results of everyone’s hard work – and to see how our projects fared in judging. Maybe I’ll see you there.

Meanwhile, here are some scenes from yesterday’s last-minute preparations.

Gloomy view of the rides
This was a view of the ride setup Thursday in the rain. A drizzle had just turned into more of a downpour as Chris took this photo.

Taxidermy at the fair
Chris took this photo of some "fairly dead things," also known as taxidermy entries, in Old Main.

Gloomy fair nameplate

Keep up with everything Fair-related here and at our “All’s Fair” blog throughout this weekend and next week. I’ll be visiting the fair almost daily, letting you know where you can maybe meet up with me and what to try!
