Ask Joan: Long to-do list edition

I’m that person who needs a to-do list. In fact, I might hypothetically write things on it just to cross them off. Today, the list is long, but I feel good about what I’ve accomplished.

What’s inside

1. When, where of Bury’s photo
2. and 3. Memories of Hammschmitt furrier, Sutcliffe

1. Mary Helder Groupe, formerly of Delroy, York County, and now living in Charleroi in western PA would like to know where this picture was taken and approximately when. “Thanks for any help you can find,” she writes.

Obviously, this is at a Bury’s Burgers location, but where? And any ideas on the date? Please do share.

2. and 3. I have two questions for you. One, my son has a ruler marked Sutcliffe, 40 S. Richland, phone #6626. I remember the place but nothing about it. Maybe someone could fill in the details. Second, I have some old fur pieces I want to sell if possible. One coat, a 3/4 length fur, that belonged to my mother, has a label inside that reads – Furs Hammschmitt & Sons Ladies Tailor York, PA. I have never heard of the company ever. I wonder if you or any of your readers would have any info on this company. I have asked someone who is a furrier but they couldn’t help me.
– Wilda L. Bosserman

I wish I had any ideas on either company for Wilda, but I don’t. That said, I’m sure someone reading will be able to contribute information on Sutcliffe and on Hammschmitt the furrier! Please comment if you can help!

Got any questions? Ask Joan using the form at right. I’ll attempt to answer them in a future “Ask Joan” column on this blog. I get a large volume, but I will feature three each week and answer as many as possible!
