A blast from the past: An interesting book treasure
One of my husband’s recent book-buying expeditions turned up a copy of a book from, I’m guessing, about 1915 or so, titled “Great Revival Hymns No. 2.”
This particular copy also has, on the cover, “St. Matthew’s Lutheran Sunday School, York, PA.”
Even better – the book was inscribed with its owner’s name.
It belonged to Vervarda Gruver of South West Street in York. When I saw that, I thought of the Lutheran church that I know is also on West Street, but that, I found, is Trinity Lutheran – the “little green church!”
There is a St. Matthew Lutheran on West Market Street; I wonder if that’s the right one?
It’s just awesome when my loves of book-collecting and all things York County come together.
