A scrapple must-read
Hubby sent me the most amazing blog tip today. Turns out our friends at another “York” news organization – The New York Times – have posted an amazing column about our favorite slab meat – scrapple.
And it all starts with an 1872 letter to the editor, whose writer proclaimed that in trying economic times, scrapple, a beloved food in Pennsylvania, was “one of the best substitutes for meat that I know of.”
Start by reading the Times’ column here… the best part? It starts with “Get a young pig’s head…”
Let the great scrapple debate begin. Among other things, what do you think about it as a “substitute for meat,” or, as a different letter-writer called it, “culinary fraud upon the stomach?” (I’m with that guy. Scrapple – eww!)
