Steam into History events for the Spring of 2014

Steam into History operates a replica 4-4-0 locomotive and passenger cars meant to evoke the spirit and memory of the Northern Central Railway, an important regional railroad during the American Civil War. March 15 and 16, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on our first trip out in 2014 with Kent Courtney on the 15th and the Susquehanna Travellers on Mary 16.  Both days you will enjoy Irish music along to get you into the spirit of the holiday. Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run is $28 for adults and $15 for children.

March 29 enjoy the banjo and guitar period music by Jeff Greenawalt, Frets and Strings.  Jeff is popular performer at Steam Into History and is back again for 2014. Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run is $28 for adults and $15 for children.

March 30 is Author’s Day.  Much of the narrative that is told on each of the runs has content that was contributed by Scott Mingus.  Mr. Mingus is a respected author with over 11 historical books related to the Civil War to his credit. He will speak at the Hanover Junction on the 2:30.  Ken Springirth will also ride with us on the 2:30 run.  He is an author of more than 10 books many of them about local history, train and trolley books.  His most recent book has a big spread about our York #17.  Both authors will have books available and will be happy to autograph your purchases. Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run is $28 for adults and $15 for children.

April 6 Steam Into History will  have the Great Train Robbery Duo.  These gentlemen will entertain the guest with train music. We are happy to have two of the band members who have opened for the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels, and Blue Oyster Cult to name a few. Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run is $28 for adults and $15 for children.

April 12, 13, 18 and 19 Steam Into History will have the Eggspecially Fun Bunny Run.  These runs will go to Glen Rock at 11:00, 1:00 and 2:30, with a visit from the Easter Bunny and a narrator on board.  Prices for these excursions are $26 for adults and $15 for children.

April 17 celebrate National Library Week with Steam Into History and the Arthur Hufnagle Public Library.  Storytime on the train, the Reading Express.  The excursion will leave from the library in Glen Rock and go to Hanover Junction.  Ticket prices are $10 for both adults and children.

April 26 enjoy a murder mystery on board the York #17, Steam Into History.  Be part of the production.  The excursion leaves the station in New Freedom at 3:00 and will go to Hanover Junction.  Prices are $38 for this fun event.

April 27, there will be two runs to Hanover Junction.  Ride the rails with Lincoln and Washington on the 11:00 run and with Washington on the 2:30 run.  Following the last run of the day, Lincoln will present a benefit concert.  Riders on these trains will receive a $5 discount for the concert Sunday evening.   Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour runs are $28 for adults and $15 for children.

May 3 and 4 celebrate May Day on the York #17, Steam Into History.  Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run is $28 for adults and $15 for children.

May 10 and 11, Steam Into History will celebrate Mother’s Day with Jeff Greenawalt on the 10th.  Your mom will have a special treat.   Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run are $28 for adults and $15 for children. May 18 Ladies, Steam Into History will have a Victorian Tea for you.  Enjoy a train ride to Glen Rock, you will then be served in the historic Glen Rock Mill Inn.  There will be a wide variety of tea, Lucy Cadewaller will be there to guide you through the period event.  You may even want to rent period attire from the gift shop in New Freedom prior to boarding the train.  Tickets for this event are $45 for adults and $20 for children.

May 24, and 26 Steam Into History will be Remembering the Boys in Blue.  Join Terry Bluett on the train as a living historian.  Rides are at 11:00 and 1:00 to Glen Rock and at 2:30 to Hanover Junction.  Prices for the Glen Rock run are $26 for adults and $15 for children, for the Hanover Junction 2 ½ hour run is $28 for adults and $15 for children.
