Historian Ed Bearss and the Joe Hooker Society tour York and Hanover Junction

Historian and author Ed Bearss (left), historian Dean Shultz of Gettysburg (center), York County Heritage Trust Civil War Guide Scott L. Mingus Sr. (right) and a groupĀ  of Civil War buffs from the Joe Hooker Society toured York and Hanover Junction on a delightfully warm Sunday afternoon, April 21.

This was a followup of a tour I led last year for Ed, Dean, and their friends of the Skirmish of Wrightsville. We tramped through downtown York for almost 2.5 hours, discussing the Civil War events with a strong focus on the U.S. Army General Hospital as well as the Confederate occupation of late June 1863. We then toured Hanover Junction in the late afternoon and chatted about the role of the railroads in south-central Pennsylvania.

This was a fundraiser for the York County Heritage Trust, and the members of the Joe Hooker Society donated $200 to YCHT for historic preservation.
