Flames Beyond Gettysburg to be featured at dinner seminar near Wrightsville, Pa.
LOWER WINDSOR TWP.– The Susquehanna River Speaker & Dinner Series’ theme this year is “Susquehanna through the Centuries.”
At 6 p.m. April 1, you can enjoy dinner by candlelight in The Rookery at Shank’s Mare, a real-life canal general store overlooking the Susquehanna River, and a program titled “The Civil War Comes to Wrightsville.”
Local author and historian Scott L. Mingus Sr. will visit Shank’s Mare with a Civil War presentation based on his book Flames Beyond Gettysburg — The Confederate Expedition to the Susquehanna River, June 1863.
Hear about the Confederates’ mission to seize the vital Susquehanna River Bridge between Wrightsville and Columbia and the capture and ransom of York.
Cost is $36 for members, $40 for nonmembers, which includes dinner and the program.

Shank’s Mare is located at 2092 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, Pennsylvania 17368. Drive to Wrightsville (just off of US 30) and head south along the river on Front Street.

After the bridge entrance, Route 624 makes an abrupt turn right. Proceed 5.2 miles along 624 south to a stop sign, the intersection with Long Level Road. We are located at 2092 Long Level Road off of Route 624 right along the Susquehanna River. Long Level Road branches off to the left of 624. Go 3 blocks, straight with the river on your left. That will bring you right to the porch!
