Civil War encampment at Codorus State Park near Hanover, Pa.
For the past few years, the 16th Pennsylvania reenactor group from Hanover, Pa., has been hosting a Civil War encampment at Codorus State Park, complete with a couple of sham battles. This year’s event was held August 18-19.
Attendance on Sunday was rather sparse, both in terms of numbers of spectators and reenactors, but what they lacked in quantity was compensated by a friendly atmosphere which my grandsons really enjoyed. The reenactors took time to meet with the public and talk with them, explaining the life of a typical Civil War soldier.
Here are a few photos from the event.
Note the navy man intermixed with the infantry. Jim Zartman helps coordinate the activities of the 16th Pennsylvania, whose website can be found here. The original regiment was a 3-month unit raised shortly after the start of the Civil War.
