“An Army of Lions” at September’s Harrisburg Civil War Round Table

On Friday, September 30, prolific Civil War author Jeffry Wert will kick off the 53rd season of the Harrisburg Civil War Round Table with a program entitled “An Army of Lions: The Army of the Potomac.”  This federal fighting force endured heart-breaking defeats and incompetent commanders before going on to ultimate victory over the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.

Mr. Wert has produced an impressive body of work on Civil War history.  His titles include From Winchester To Cedar Creek:  The Shenandoah Campaign of 1864, Mosby’s Rangers, Custer:  The Controversial Life Of George Armstrong Custer, The Sword of Lincoln and, most recently A Glorious Army:  Robert E. Lee’s Triumph, 1862-1863. Copies of this latest work will be available for purchase and signing at the meeting.

Mr. Wert has also written for Civil War Times Illustrated, America’s Civil War, Pennsylvania History and many other publications. He serves on the honorary board of directors of the Civil War Preservation Trust and on the historical advisory board of the Gettysburg Foundation.  He and his wife live in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania.   

The Harrisburg Civil War Round Table meets at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center, Camp Hill, PA, Camp Hill Bypass @ Routes 11&15. An informal reception starts at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner at 6:45. The cost of dinner is $20.00 and reservations must be made by no later than Tuesday, September 27, by calling 717-938-3706.
