150 years ago: Was this railroad lock a relic of the Confederate raid on Hanover Junction?

Springfield-20130615-00022

This vintage lock is marked PRR, for the Pennsylvania Railroad. During the Civil War years and later, that company controlled and managed the Northern Central Railway which ran north-south through the center of York County.

On June 27, 1863, Confederate raiders from Virginia and Maryland drove Union militia away from Hanover Junction, Pa. Recently, a gentleman donated the lock shown above to the museum.

What is the reported significance of this old lock???

Springfield-20130615-00021UPDATE: This lock has been identified as a vintage 1915 Pennsylvania Railroad item, so it postdates the Civil War by 50 years.
